    This isn't happening immediately, but will probably happen later in June.

    There's a new version of our software out, which has quite a few handy improvements. I wants them, I does. This isn't going to be just a little patch like the one I ran today. It pretty much involves reinstalling everything, as well as updating quite a bit of custom coding.

    So, a bit later this month we'll be shutting the forum down for 24 hours max while we get all the mayhem out of the way. It might take less than 24 hours, but we'll give ourselves that much leeway just in case we need it for testing all the changes.

    People will be given a few days notice when it's about to happen, and of course the IRC chat will still be open even when the forum is temporarily closed.

    Ok, well the staff may take bribes. If you contact the admins privately and arrange to send large sums of money to our Swiss bank accounts we may be able to do something.

    damn 24 hours will be hard.

    Have your tried implementing changes in increments ? so the form does not have to be down for so long and all at once. perhaps for a few small increments allowing you to test your code as well ?

    The most tedious part is going to be thoroughly testing all the membergroup permissions, since the new software uses a completely different permissions system to the current version. That testing is something we cannot do in a half-arsed manner.

    I am going to test everything as much as possible before doing it live on the forum, so it probably wont be down for a whole 24 hours. If we can get a few staff members together at one time and get a clean run at it for a while, we can probably knock it over in half a day or so.

    However, just in case something does go wrong, I figured it'd be good to warn people that we may be in maintenance mode for up to 24 hours.

    Definitely. I'm actually planning some improvements in that department. The upgrade wont go ahead until I have sorted that in advance.
