Oh this is the thread I been looking for. I love movies, as a form of entertainment.

I watched a screening of X-Men first class the other day. Being my second viewing I noted a number of flaws which I missed in my first viewing. It still does not make sense to me how magneto would adopt the ideology of the person he hated and come to dislike humans, considering his mum was human and killed by mutant. Oh well.

Its been a few weeks since I went to the cinema but I watched Jurrasic Park last time I went. Its amazing how the cg of the movie still holds up.

Was going to watch 3 musketeers but that got a shitty rating all round, though I may go watch it anyway.

Think of it this way.  People who have been abused, often go on to become abusers themselves.  For magneto to become the thing he hated most makes sense when you look at it under that umbrella i think.

That makes sense. I guess I was just hung up on the idea that he cant or rather should not hate humans as his mum was human. However the whole becoming what you hate and the abused becoming abusers does make sense.

So today I've been lame, haven't studied and have watched 2 films.

    Real steel

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei5l3r1dV4I

Which I watched with the kids.

all I can say about this movie is meh, feel good family entertainment.  the emotional scenes, the little there wete of them were seriously overplayed.  The kid was good but I've seen better child actors.

Plus i hated the end.  Typical small guy wins against the big guy.  Infact it reminds me of the champ only with robots as the fighters.  It juxt ends on some epic happy ending that doesn;t even let you know if the boy went to live with the people his dad sold him to, or if after the fight they lived happily ever after.

It's got such high ratings because people are so lame

and then I watched Ip man:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AJxXQ7xojE

Way way better than real steel, but just not as epic as i had been led to believe.

if you've seen one kung fu movie to be fair you've seen a whole bunch and this on, well I feel the only thing that gives it anything is that its meant to be based on a true story and of course the fighting scenes are fucking awesome.

But there are many many kung fu movies I would rate higher than this, and this came highly recommended.

Meh.  What to watch now.  I'm not tired enough to sleep yet but too tired to read one more journal about why Josiah's reign was so signficant.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

The problem with Kung–Fu style films is that the kung–fu IS the whole point of them. The choreography, the intensity, the frequency with which they occur. Having an entertaining story is simply a bare skeleton upon which to hang the fight, hence Japanese fighting games with a tacked–on story about fighting tournaments. In fact, a lot of the more story–oriented kung–fu films are story–oriented because of western cinema and audience considerations. This is why The Matrix Reloaded is MORE eastern–like than The Matrix.

This is true.  But I need the bare bones holding the scenes together.

I am even like this when playing a game.  I need to watch the story parts of the game and never skip them until I've seen it at least once.   Tongue

That’s based on something that was actually purported to have happened. Whether it did or not is a matter for debate, but it’s brilliant and tragic at the same time. People putting god on trial and finding it wanting. But then ending the trial because it’s prayer time.

So I watched "A beautiful mind" for the first time yesterday.

It was an alright movie actually.  I even slightly shed a tear when Dr Nash recieved the nobel prize and gave his speech, all glorifying the power of love.  Grin  it made me feel sappy and mushy for a split second.

Thing is though, I was trying to think of a film that I know I have seen recommended on this forum many times, I thought it was this movie ^^ hence my watching it, but it can't be, since although the movie is good I wouldn't exactly rave about it.

So my question is, was it being john malkovich?  is that worth watching?

or is it a jim carrey movie..........eternal sunshine of the spotless mind?

I'm a fan of Nash but I've never seen it, is it worth watching?

I never get tired of watching Scent of a woman, Al Pacino is a great actor.

As for Beautiful Mind, i watched it long time ago so i cant really make a fair judgement but i have enjoyed it.

    Just watched Super

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL57ncw2jr8

I'm not a big fan of the comic book hero genre, so the idea of a dark parody appealed to me. The film was quite funny, worth watching and mostly enjoyable. It's like a dark and real version of Kick Ass, it's almost between South Park, Kick Ass and Kill Bill. Gruesome, but not daring, fun and funny, but not hilarious.

    Anyway, worth considering.
