    Terror in the Middle East

Can't anyone see the conditions they're in
Poverty and indignity, while the terrorists grin
Lies upon lies, to justify the horror
Old ones cry, while the little ones suffer
No food, no water, fences are closed
People are dying, bones are exposed
They killed them all, destroyed their homes
With chemical weapons and cluster bombs

Where's the world from the terror in the Middle East
People are dying, the West is pleased
The war on terror is just a lie
Terror fuels terror, and thousands die

We gotta wake up, see for ourselves
People are starving, starving to death
They have no jobs, no money at all
They're locked in a prison, and the key is long gone
There's nothing they can do, they're all alone
No help from their neighbours, they left them long ago

Where's the world from the terror in the Middle East
People are starving, the West is pleased
The war on terror is one big crime
Democracy will never exist, unless the terrorists do their time

Where's the world from the terror on its soil
Humanity has disappeared, the law has ceased
There's nothing we can do, but cry in plea
Cry for mercy, cry for relief

It flutters playfully all around me.

    Tantalizingly close.

I am captivated by its beauty.

If only it could be mine!

    It hovers above me,
yet no matter how much I chase it,
I cannot keep up with its incessant teasing.

    I am weary.

    It senses my discontent.

    My despair.

    My yearning.

    Please be mine!

    It alights upon a branch.

    Perfectly still.

An invitation to fulfill my desire.

    My heart skips a beat.

I carefully reach out to it.

    Time stops.

    Hope swells within me.

    You’ll soon be mine!

    I stand tip-toed.

    My fingers close in.

    A gentle wind blows.

    A leaf rustles.

It darts into the air once more.

I let out an anguished cry.

    I stumble after it.

    Tears blur my vision.

Why must you torment me so?

You shouldn't have hesitated to post your poem, I like it. It gives off the air of real despair and yearning with a perfectly matched rhythm. And besides, there's no such thing as a bad poem, as long as the poem is written true to you.  Smiley

Ugh, I just wrote something and lost it. Good thing it was short, I can remember it.

Fly, spread your wings eternal child.
Let not those who see life bitter tear your wings apart.

Follow the light in your flight, and be not afraid as you rise,
For I will be by your side.

When the harsh wind blows, fly with all your might.
    And if you fall as we all;
Fly, spread your wings eternal child.

I'm going to include this in my poetry book that is going along with my decade book. What do you think? Please give me your honest feed back. Thanks!

    In the Strawberry Patch
    Jessica Marie

    Take a look around
    inside the strawberry patch.
    Where memories haunt.

    Take a walk around
    (no use in crying anymore)
    can't change what is done.

    Remember the rose?
    The bloody hue; broken heart?
    How thoughtful of you.

    The leaves shriveled fall
(my sweet, precious friend, ya know
    he ain't comin' back).

    Kneel amongst the dirt
    (no use in crying anymore)
    they were not true friends.

    Remember the veil?
    The saddened hues; the lies?
    Trapping me inside.

    Hide my beauty now
(my sweet, precious friend, ya know
    they ain't comin' back).

    Fallow the black dirt,
    (no use in crying anymore)
    begin life again.

    Fruit can be reborn,
    their souls cannot be shattered
    despite the season.

    Forget the wintertime
(my sweet, precious friend, ya know
    I ain't coming back).

    Caged like a rat,
    poison fed promises, yeah,
    yet I didn't die.

    I want to forget
    in the old strawberry patch
    the seeds of sorrow.

    The bitter juices
    (no use in crying anymore)
    of deep seed beauty.

Is your grammar defective? Just askin'.

It's often been said the best thing you'll find
coming out of the Elephant & Castle
    is the Bakerloo Line

So I set off to seek paradise
    In the centre of town
'Lift Out Of Order,Please Walk Down'

    5th step , 6th step only 3 million more
    dodge the Unlucky Fried Chicken
    that decorates the floor

    Finally reach the bottom
    legs begging for a rest
although 25 minutes is a personal best

The platform greets me with the usual smog
and that smell that reminds me
I forgot to feed the dog

An empty coke can , drunk old man ,Queens Park 15 minutes
Between this and a milk float
    there aint much in it

A copy of the Daily Bullshit wraps itself around my feet
to kill a quarter of an hour
I pick it up and have a peep

The tabloid groans with over tones , that verge on the abusive
there' the loony left ,the small time theft
and the shock horror sex exclusive

The Lottery winner , the unrepentant sinner
and the vicar who made here bruise
Gene Kelly's on the telly again
and theres 10 more pence put  on the booze

Left wing, right wing, but real men prefer the breast
    dont kill  your husband, dear
    agony  aunt knows best.

wrote that about 8 years ago ,whilst bored in Elephant & castle tube station Smiley

Alot of emotions in that poem, Jessica.

I don't think there is a 'correct' version of poetry, the best poetry comes from the heart, it's about expressing yourself. Poetry is very personal, everyone has their own flavour.

If you're asking about whether it's correct in english, I'll pass there, grammer and spelling isn't my strongest (-says the wannabe teacher haha!).

Lovely poem for coming to terms with what's happened in our lives, accepting the harsh realities and moving on.

You have the opportunity to plant new seeds and watch the flowers and fruits bloom though! Smiley

this is more of a rap that i wrote 2 years ago, it was mostly for a battle

You're like a hopeless dreamer, staring in divine light,
You suffer from hindsight from this assigned fight,
Your bars are benign, while I recite malign shite,
    You're alligned to the sidelines, you're just a fleabite;
I'm on my feet like a feline, rolling in the twilight,
I designed the guideline, you can't get it timed right,
    Infinite crimes I indict, hip-hop in daylight;
My lyrics define and refine - highlight the limelight.

I'm the cashmere to your linen - much to your disdain,
I jeer at your fear, I'm ruling your domain,
The final frontier, the feigned membrane
    of society's queer mundane monarch reign;
Revere the shakesperean bloodstain, inane pain,
Lyrics restrained, appear to be insane,
    To the naked ear, profanity remains;
For my homies' peer, my melody regains.

You fucking pusssies down under were torn asunder,
You're rap is a blunder while I spit fucking thunder,
When you spit a bar I wonder, should I fucking shun ya,
I'm suddenly getting plundered while my lyrics fucking gun ya.

Yeah I'm gettin' plundered, by your bitch you see,
Poetic and metaphorically by my wizardy,
Philosophically fucking her like it's Paizuri,
Mammary copulation 'cos you fuck her flaccidly.

You're embalmed in my theology, like tutankhamun,
My sadistic bars expand on me, they're like a typhoon,
Utilising sublime logic, to which you're immune,
You're neurotically inferior, the mass to my commune,
    Psychologically spoon-feeding you my monsoon,
Of musically enchanced barrage of impugn,
    "Lyrically challanged" eight-bar platoons,
I'm spittin' harpoons from the moons of neptune.

here's the last poem I wrote (a few years back)

    In the still

In the still we rest, my beautiful son --
Intransigent harp, a silence to bear
A fervour, replaced by an ashen breath
This set impasse, my routed declare
Imparting sighs to an ungodly world
Lightness comes to pass, with quiet untold
    Flitting glimpses of this single instant;
memories lost, left til now to behold
(Tuck me, I feel the coolness creeping in)
A last reverence, bestill sacred beat
For now, a coup de grace; for now, my son
To dance in the still, give rest, tired feet.

I'm not much of a poet, though I do like it. I think I might start a thread of some of my favorite poetry!
