I'm Maya and I recently joined here having read quite a few of the topics.

Ok well....  All I have to say really is that I've always thought all religion is bullshit, I believe none of it and nothing I've heard or read so far about any of the religions has convinced me to think of them as anything but pie-in-sky fairytales.

Anyway I've come to the conclusion that I'm missing out on something.  I see all these tales of people who are ex-this and ex-that and I want somebody to convince me into believing a religion.  I think I'll plump for Islam - that seems to be the trendiest at the moment.

Can anyone point me to somewhere or someone who can talk me into becoming a muslim and believing?     One muslim has tried his best to get me to convert and believe but so far I'm having none of it.  Tales of Mohammed and Allah just make me laugh out loud at how anybody can be so stupid as to believe such crap.

Anyone up for the challenge?   Cheesy

That's too unsophisticated dear deusvult! You have missed the seduction phase [the most important phase before you sink in the hook!]. You will never make a good dawahgandist. This one appears to be a tough cookie though! Unleash MRasheed and Abdul Fattah on her,let us see how she fares!

Hi deusvult - no sorry, not working.  Wink

I'm thinking you might be suspecting that I'm joking with the above post,  but honestly I'm not.  I really want to know what it's all about. I was born a christian but even as a child I never believed any of it and rebelled and refused to attend sunday schools etc.  At school I disrupted religious education classes.   Nobody ever came close to making me even think of believing and now I'm thinking there must be something wrong with me for feeling as I do.

You recommend that forum Blackdog?   Will they be ok with someone joining there who feels like I do or am I likely to get banned at first post?  lol

Why don't we arm her for the struggle ? Let us have some member who tells us a story of how she successfully resisted Islam for a change! From lambs who were led to slaughter, we now have a 'tigress' willing to take on the Islamists. Hope she doesn't end up making a you tube video revealing how she discovered that 'Islam is a true religion' following 'THE WORD OF GOD' Lmao

This prolonged recession is taking a heavy toll, dawahgandists must be laughing their way to the mosque!

I would follow backlog's advice.  Though if you've heard the Christian explanation for god you've heard just about the same arguments you'll hear there.

Hmmmm ok thanks but I doubt the same old arguments will work for me now any more than they did then.

Telling me I'll forever burn in hell for not believing or committing "sins" or that I'll keep being brought back to be burnt over and over again (as my muslim son-in-law has tried to tell me) - well this is the kind of crap that will do anything but make me believe in it so if that's what they'll try to do there's no point me even joining there.  Roll Eyes

So what's this seduction method you mention Hypocrucifier - don't think anyone's tried that approach with me yet.  dance

Might as well try it out. Who knows you might be convinced.

Yes I'm willing to try but I just don't see what, if anything, will be able to convince me.     I can't be a fake and pretend, I really want to feel it, this all-encompassing faith, if that makes sense.  Smiley

Cheesy @ hypocrucifier.  You crack me up man.

@Maya:
Critical thinkers cannot be converted into any of the Abrahamic religions (or any religion, for that matter).
It sounds like you are a strongly critical thinker, and have been since childhood.  So it ain't gonna work with you.  Smiley
People convert to absurd religions because their cognitive biases fooled them into thinking these religions are true or a safe bet (to avoid hellfire!).   Smiley

One very popular argument Muslims use is: "look at the Qur'an.  Isn't it amazing?  No man could have authored it!"
But when you look at the Qur'an, you are not at all impressed.

LOL yeezevee, that might well be one of the only ways that might work with me - to be physically forced or something  Cheesy however that, in itself, certainly wouldn't make me believe and that is what I need. To truly believe.

There must be some way of getting a non-believer to truly believe, there just must.  Huh?

@ ateapotist - I suspect you're right but I have no idea why I'm such a critical thinker.  I received the same religious education that countless others did yet it never got through to me.   As soon as I heard about some supposed god in the sky I just relegated it to the same ranks as the fairytale books I so used to love reading as a kid.  I never really believed those fairytales either I just enjoyed reading them lol.

Because I felt that by being forced to have religious education was patronising to me I felt no guilt in disrupting all those classes.  It was very easy to do and I even enjoyed all the mayhem I created because it meant I didn't have to listen to all the crap.  Obviously this wasn't allowed by the school and so my parents were sent for.  I clearly remember to this day my mother being upset and crying in the headmistress's office at my behaviour and me being embarrassed at HER behaviour and thinking "ffs even my own mother believes all this crap".   I'm not proud of what I did but I just couldn't sit there and listen to this rubbish and felt very angry that I was being expected to.

Over the years my views on religion haven't changed yet at the same time I've wanted to know how it feels to truly believe in something.

Welcome, Maya.

I advise you to join the army. Apparently there are no atheists in foxholes.

Thanks for the welcome Abood but I could never join the army - that would mean going to places like Afghanistan and having to kill people.  I don't believe in that either, nor could I ever contemplate killing a fox.

But that is true to not only to you but also to  millions of Muslim guys and girls also Maya. Suppose tomorrow morning a UN body with powerful weapons in the hand sternly warns all Muslim countries that persecute those people who question basics of religions such as this guy.. Mohamed Nazim

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sN3u_SLZ9E

 and see this news...

http://minivannews.com/politics/apostate-publicly-repents-and-rejoins-islam-after-counselling-7704

and say UN will protect and support financially ..jobs and other wise in their countries.,  Then I am sure   many Muslim  will come out of that ISLAMIC SHELL .. What all i mean to say is there is and there was FORCE involved in Muslims  not questioning or not leaving Mr. Muhammad's Islam.
